A tip for a hiking trip:
Hluboká nad Vltavou – Bezdrev – Břehov – Dubné – České Budějovice

An undemanding daylong trip which will bring you directly to the heart of South Bohemia and which can be made on foot or by bike. The route runs along roads and well-kept paths. Start on the yellow tourist trail at railway station in Hluboká nad Vltavou-Zámostí and follow it through a neighbourhood full of new villas from where you get a beautiful view of the Hluboká Castle; continue all the way to a bridge over the Vltava under which a port for tourist boats is. The yellow trail (no. 6321) will bring you past Munický Pond to the Ohrada Hunting Castle and the Ohrada ZOO. After visiting the ZOO, you can continue to the crossroads near Vondrov, where the local riding centre is situated, and further on to the dam of Bezdrev Pond. Follow the road along a camping site, you can have a swim in Bezdrev since this pond has been a recreational pond since 1935. The road will bring you to Dehtář Pond (246 hectares) which has two islands and a ten metre high dam. On the way to the village of Dubné with its typical spire of the local, originally Gothic parish Church of the Assumption, you should not miss the Podevrážský Mill which is listed for technical excellence. Continue through the villages of Třebín and Branišov to mysterious crossroads with a simple forest cross called Vlčí jáma (the Wolves Pit). You might find fresh flowers by a picture of the Virgin Mary there. It is allegedly a site where mysterious figures appear! So, we had better get on a green trail to České Budějovice and take a bus back to Hluboká.

A tip for a bike trip:
Hluboká nad Vltavou – České Budějovice – Český Krumlov

One of the most interesting cycling routes in South Bohemia is certainly the one running along the River Vltava. Let’s start the trip on route No. 12 in ‘U Švejka‘ Restaurant which is a part of the Knížecí Dvůr Hotel and go towards České Budějovice. In Bavorovice, we ride past a few structures in the style of the Peasant Baroque and also pastures for horses. If we feel like a short detour, there is a new section of the cycling path from Bavorovice to the Ohrada ZOO where we can also visit the Ohrada Hunting Castle or the Vondrov Horse-riding Centre. We can also interrupt our journey in České Vrbno in a canoeing centre, and then follow along the Vltava directly to the centre of the South-Bohemian metropolis. We are sure you have heard about the large Přemysl Otakar II Square, the Black Tower and numerous religious structures in this traditionally Catholic city. The path between Hluboká nad Vltavou and České Budějovice is reserved for bikes, but it is also widely used by roller skaters. On the way from České Budějovice, via Boršov, Opalice and Záluží to Zlatá Koruna we have to share the road with cars, so be careful and respect traffic rules. After a break at Zlatá Koruna monastery and a tour of the Cistercian monastery we can follow a partly asphalt and partly sandy path to Český Krumlov, a town of unique beauty included in the UNESCO list. To get back to České Budějovice we can use a cycle-bus which has a regular stop there.
